## Frequently asked questions

### How do I calculate hours worked from a time card?

For each day: clock-out time − clock-in time − unpaid break. Add up the days for the weekly total. Convert minutes to decimals by dividing by 60: 7 h 45 min is 7.75 hours.

### What about shifts that end after midnight?

If the clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time, the calculator treats it as the next day. A shift from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM counts as 8 hours.

### Are breaks paid?

Under US federal law, short breaks of 5–20 minutes are paid, while meal breaks of 30 minutes or more can be unpaid if the employee is fully relieved of duty. Only enter unpaid breaks here.
